About Livesoc

Do you love music?

Do you think music is best when it’s right there in front of you, being performed with some kind of passion?

If you answered yes to both these questions then we're the society for you.

We believe in supporting music of all forms, encouraging the merging of the student and local music scene and providing an easy way to find out about what’s going on in Southampton and the Hampshire music scene.

We'd also love to offer you the opportunity to get more involved. Want to run your own event? Work on our advertising team? Get free sound tech training? Talk to us about the range of opportunities available. We are a society both for musicians and for non musicians, if you love live music, whether performing or just watching, then we will have something for you.

Also, if you didn't need any more incentive to join, LiveSoc were voted the best society of 2008/09 at the EVAs!

Here’s some of the stuff we do

Run The Living Room open mic with the CU — alternate Wednesdays at 8pm in the Bridge bar
Help newly formed bands get gigs around both the university and venues like the Soul Cellar, Talking Heads, and The Boiler House
Maintain this website and its database of musicians’ profiles
Run social events to go and watch all kinds of live local music
Work closely with AIM and Rocksoc to maintain a huge alternative music community
Put on events which combine the student, local and national music scenes
Offer equipment at a discounted cost to support our musicians
Provide practice space in the form of The Cube at weekends to give bands somewhere to rehearse

To join Livesoc, cast your eyes to the right for instructions. You can also join our Facebook group. Once you’ve joined you’ll be kept up to date on events through our newsletter (which we aim to release once every two weeks, and from which you can opt out).

If you play an instrument you will also be able to add your musician’s profile to the database and get in contact with other musicians.

Hi there guys!

Hope exams have gone well for all of you and you've enjoyed the freedom of the last few days! If you want to spend some of that freedom listening to some live acoustic acts then this is the week for you!

Coming up on Tuesday we have the first open mic of the new year, where you can see some familiar faces and hopefully some new ones, with the usual great variety of styles.

Also, everyday this week, between 2.30 and 4.30, we are providing live music in the CU marquee on campus, and the best of Livesoc's musical talent will be taking to the stage!

Hello from LiveSoc!!! I know we've been fairly quiet since the start of term, but never fear, we will be starting up again with our usual enthusiasm after exams. We wouldn't want you to hold us responsible for missing revision now would we?

There will be plenty to look forward to over the next term, including some gigs that we're quite excited about, and of course, more great music at our regular acoustic night and jams. Join Livesoc

You’re either not logged in or not a member of Livesoc. Could be both. It’s easy to join Livesoc (and free of course) – here’s what to do:

Fill in the form on the register page
You get sent an email with a temporary password – log in using this with your username
You’ll probably then want to change your password

That’s it! You might want to create your musician’s profile after that, by clicking the link in the members’ area.

Finally, meet us for a pint, meet some other members and make a lot of noise.

President: Chris Dale (Christof)
Chris keeps an eye on the work done by the VPs and their teams, and leads the good ship Livesoc into fresh pastures with a stream of new ideas.
Webmaster: Aaron Bali (ab21g08)
Aaron is in charge of our Web presence, keeping the site up-to-date, the Facebook fresh, and working on new ideas like the online shop.
Social Secretary: Sally Ford (01fordsa)
Sally organises our regular socials out around in Southampton and beyond.
Jam Session Manager: Adam Grace (Grim)
Gracie masterminds the Livesoc jam sessions, coming up with sessions, equipment, and ideas with the help of the rest of the committee.
VP Events: Tim Horne (tim)
Tim is in charge for the running of all the Livesoc gigs - booking the bands, the venues, and arranging for the advertising and tech crews to help. He is the head of the events team.
Livesoc National Ambassador: Emily Moore (em506)
Maintains contact with the Live Music Society Union, arranging inter-university communication and events.
VP Advertising: Emma Richards (esr106)
Heads up the advertising team and works hard to spread the word of what we get up to in the university and local community. Also acts as the Livesoc treasurer.
Practice Space Manager: Jack Smith (PurpleFuzz)
Jack deals with booking the Livesoc practice space, and keeps an eye on the equipment we keep there.
Band Manager: Andrew Stafford (aps5g08)
Andrew is in charge of finding and booking fresh talent for Livesoc, and getting the right bands for the right events, working with the VP Ents.
VP Tech: Alex Wood (Sasha)
Alex heads the tech team, which works sound and lights at Livesoc gigs. Moonlights as the Livesoc secretary.
