About Livesoc

Love Music? Love Live Music?

If you answered yes to these questions then we are the society for you.

LiveSoc are heavily involved in the University and Southampton music scene, making it easier for YOU to find a gig you want to go to.

The Living Room Open Mic

  • Alternating Tuesdays from 8pm-11pm in the Bridge Bar
  • 10/15 minute slots - come along and ask on the night to book one
  • Guitar and mic provided or bring your own instrument - all music accepted, from Folk to Synth Pop!

LiveSoc Jam

  • Alternating Sundays from 1pm-3pm in the Cube
  • Amps and drums provided, just bring yourself and a guitar
  • All genres and abilities catered for in several impromptu jams, capped with a few covers!

Kit and Space Hire

  • We rent our drumkit to societies for a small fee
  • Free practice space for bands - weekends in the Cube
  • Links with local recording studios
  • Talk to James Dalziel (PEJ manager) to book

Awards

As if you need anything else, LiveSoc have won awards at the last three EVAs, including Best Society and Best Event!

What else do we do?

  • Help newly formed bands get gigs around both the university and venues like the Soul Cellar, Talking Heads, and The Boiler House
  • Maintain this website and its database of musicians’ profiles
  • Run social events to go and watch all kinds of live local music
  • Work closely with AIM and Rocksoc to maintain a huge alternative music community
  • Put on events which combine the student, local and national music scenes

To join Livesoc, cast your eyes to the right for instructions. You can also join our Facebook group. Once you’ve joined you’ll be kept up to date on events through our newsletter (which we aim to release once every two weeks, and from which you can opt out).

If you play an instrument you will also be able to add your musician’s profile to the database and get in contact with other musicians.

If you want to find out more either e-mail us or come along to our fortnightly meetings – Tuesdays, 7pm to 8pm at The Bridge (just before the Living Room).

There will also be a meeting beforehand which will be deciding important things like budget and what will go on in freshers, so if you want to have your say, come along!

Join Livesoc

You’re either not logged in or not a member of Livesoc. Could be both. It’s easy to join Livesoc (and free of course) – here’s what to do:

  1. Fill in the form on the register page
  2. You get sent an email with a temporary password – log in using this with your username
  3. You’ll probably then want to change your password

That’s it! You might want to create your musician’s profile after that, by clicking the link in the members’ area.

Finally, meet us for a pint, meet some other members and make a lot of noise.
