About Livesoc

Do you love music?

Do you think music is best when it’s right there in front of you, being performed with some kind of passion?

If you answered yes to both these questions then we're the society for you.

We believe in supporting music of all forms, encouraging the merging of the student and local music scene and providing an easy way to find out about what’s going on in Southampton and the Hampshire music scene.

We'd also love to offer you the opportunity to get more involved. Want to run your own event? Work on our advertising team? Get free sound tech training? Talk to us about the range of opportunities available.  We are a society both for musicians and for non musicians, if you love live music, whether performing or just watching, then we will have something for you.

Also, if you didn't need any more incentive to join, LiveSoc were voted the best society of 2008/09 at the EVAs!

Here’s some of the stuff we do

  • Run The Living Room open mic with the CU — alternate Wednesdays at 8pm in the Bridge bar
  • Help newly formed bands get gigs around both the university and venues like the Soul Cellar, Talking Heads, and The Boiler House
  • Maintain this website and its database of musicians’ profiles
  • Run social events to go and watch all kinds of live local music
  • Work closely with AIM and Rocksoc to maintain a huge alternative music community
  • Put on events which combine the student, local and national music scenes
  • Offer equipment at a discounted cost to support our musicians
  • Provide practice space in the form of The Cube at weekends to give bands somewhere to rehearse

To join Livesoc, cast your eyes to the right for instructions. You can also join our Facebook group. Once you’ve joined you’ll be kept up to date on events through our newsletter (which we aim to release once every two weeks, and from which you can opt out).

If you play an instrument you will also be able to add your musician’s profile to the database and get in contact with other musicians.

If you want to find out more either e-mail us or come along to our fortnightly meetings – 7pm to 8pm at The Bridge (just before the Living Room).

Mr and Mrs LiveSoc

Posted 2009 Jun 27 by Christof

Today is the big day for Sam and Nicky, who are getting married in Dorchester this afternoon.  Sam put in a lot of hard work as LiveSoc President over the last 2 years, and Nicky no doubt put in a lot more looking after our former prez.  We would like to wish them both all the best in their marriage, 3 proverbial e-cheers for Mr and Mrs Ling!

Cube gig cancelled

Posted 2009 Apr 10 by Christof

Sadly we have had to cancel the gig at the cube on the 27th April due to the cube being double booked.  We will most definately be doing one next year, and in the meantime, you still have 2 Stags nights and 3 open mic nights left to look forward to.

It's only rock 'n' roll (but I like it)

Join Livesoc

You’re either not logged in or not a member of Livesoc. Could be both. It’s easy to join Livesoc (and free of course) – here’s what to do:

  1. Fill in the form on the register page
  2. You get sent an email with a temporary password – log in using this with your username
  3. You’ll probably then want to change your password

That’s it! You might want to create your musician’s profile after that, by clicking the link in the members’ area.

Finally, meet us for a pint, meet some other members and make a lot of noise.
